Aspire People are recruiting resilient, empathetic and proactive Teaching Assistants to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs across primary schools in Manchester and the surrounding areas.
This opportunity is suited to someone who understands the importance of building trust, establishing consistent boundaries and helping children feel safe enough to engage with learning.
Pupils may experience difficulties managing emotions, maintaining positive relationships, responding to classroom expectations or coping with challenging situations. The successful candidate will help them develop positive strategies while working alongside the wider school team.

- Building positive, professional relationships with pupils through consistency and encouragement
- Supporting emotional regulation and helping pupils recognise and manage their feelings
- Promoting positive behaviour through agreed strategies and clear expectations
- Helping pupils return to learning following periods of distress or disengagement
- Supporting transitions, breaktimes and other situations that may present additional challenges
- Encouraging positive communication, social skills and conflict resolution
- Adapting learning activities to help pupils remain engaged
- Recording relevant observations and sharing feedback with teaching staff
- Following school behaviour policies, safeguarding procedures and individual support plans
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has recent UK-based school experience supporting pupils with SEND or behavioural needs within the last two years
- Has a calm, confident and consistent approach
- Can establish appropriate boundaries while maintaining positive relationships
- Is patient when working with pupils who may struggle to regulate their emotions
- Understands the importance of de-escalation and preventative support
- Communicates effectively with teachers, pastoral teams and other professionals
- Is committed to safeguarding and helping pupils achieve positive outcomes
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, ADHD, behavioural difficulties or additional emotional needs would be particularly valuable. Relevant experience in mentoring or pastoral support may also be considered where it includes appropriate recent UK-based school experience.
