Learning Support Assistant
Location: Derby (DE1)
Pay: £100 - £115 per day
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Contract: Full-time, long term to permanent

Long Term Futures are working with a specialist SEMH school in Derby (DE1) are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their team. The school supports pupils aged 5-16 with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing personalised education and pastoral support to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes. This is a rewarding opportunity for a positive, resilient individual to play a key role in supporting young people with additional needs, helping them to engage with education, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.
What You'll Be Doing as the new Learning Support Assistant
Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups throughout the school day
Helping students develop confidence, independence and positive routines
Encouraging engagement in learning activities and supporting academic progress
Supporting emotional regulation and implementing positive behaviour strategies
Recording progress, wellbeing and key observations in line with school systems
Providing personal care where requiredWhat We're Looking For
Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or autism
A calm, patient and flexible approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, Team Teach or similar) are desirable but not essential
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
About You
Fully compliant, including a DBS on the update system and two professional references
Experience working in SEN, alternative provision, PRUs or youth support settings
Skilled in positive behaviour management with strong emotional resilience
A background in Maths or Sport is advantageous
Calm, compassionate and adaptable, with a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed
