Temporary Land Registry / Curtilage Mapping Project Assistant
Location: Office-Based / Home Working
Contract: Temporary (Approx. 3 Months)
Hours: Full Time
Salary: £13.77 - £16.04 per hour depending on experience.
Are you detail‑driven, confident working independently and interested in heritage, planning, or GIS? We're looking for two Temporary Mapping Project Assistants to support an important Land Registry project focused on curtilage boundaries for listed buildings.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience in heritage, planning, GIS mapping, or local government project work.
About the Role
You will be responsible for helping to create an accurate dataset of listed building curtilage boundaries using GIS mapping tools. Working from home and the office, you'll assess information about listed buildings and map each property's curtilage based on clear guidance and training provided.
This project will involve reviewing around 2,500 listed buildings, working to agreed timescales and producing consistent, accurate mapping data.
Key Responsibilities
Review listed building descriptions, mapping records and other supporting information.
Assess the likely curtilage of each listed building using supplied training materials and guidance.
Plot curtilage boundaries on GIS mapping software to a high level of accuracy.
Work independently to meet agreed project timelines.
Liaise with internal officers and external partners such as the Land Registry when required.
Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, policies, and professional standards.Training & Support
You will receive:
Full training on GIS systems
Guidance on assessing and determining curtilage boundaries
Written materials to support consistent decision‑making
Ongoing support from heritage specialists for more complex cases
Regular progress reviews at weeks 2, 4, 8, and towards the end of the projectA laptop will be provided.
About You
Essential:
GCSE/A‑Level or equivalent
Experience in an office environment
Strong IT skills, including confidence learning GIS software
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Good communication skills
Able to work to deadlines and manage your own workload
Comfortable undertaking repetitive tasks carefully and consistentlyDesirable:
Understanding of listed buildings or heritage protection
Experience using GIS systems
Experience in local government or the public sectorWorking Environment
Office-based and/or home working
