Process Operator
Knowsley, Liverpool | £35,000–£40,000 depending on experience
Know your way around process vessels, pumps and batch production? Want to help get a growing manufacturing operation up and running?
We’re recruiting two Process Operators for a business developing more sustainable ingredients through fermentation. As production scales up, you’ll have the chance to learn new processes, contribute ideas and help shape how the plant operates.
It’s an opportunity to put your practical manufacturing experience to work in a developing sector, with potential to progress towards Senior Operator or Shift Leader as the team grows.
The role
You’ll be hands-on across the production process, from preparing raw materials and operating equipment to monitoring batches and keeping the plant ready for its next run.
Your responsibilities will include:
Operating fermentation vessels, pumps, valves and associated processing equipment.
Preparing and transferring raw materials and process feeds.
Monitoring temperatures, pressures and process conditions using automated controls.
Taking samples and maintaining accurate batch and production records.
Carrying out cleaning-in-place (CIP) and maintaining hygiene standards.
Spotting process deviations, investigating issues and working with engineering when needed.
Following operating procedures and contributing to safe, reliable production.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring hands-on experience in process or batch manufacturing, along with a practical approach to solving problems and the discipline to follow procedures properly.
Your background could be in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, brewing, distilling, food and drink, dairy or chemical processing. Experience with vessels, liquid processing, automated controls or CIP systems would be particularly useful.
Fermentation experience would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. Relevant process experience, attention to detail and a willingness to learn matter here. You don’t need a degree.
You’ll also need to be comfortable recording production data, communicating clearly during handovers and working closely with a small team.
Hours and shift requirements
Current hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:30. For approximately the first six months, work is expected to remain mainly on days, with occasional periods of shift work.
The site is expected to move towards 24/7 production, so you must be comfortable moving onto shifts as operations develop. The future rota is still being finalised.
Why consider it?
£35,000-£40,000 salary, depending on experience.
The opportunity to develop skills in fermentation and industrial biotechnology.
A hands-on role in commissioning, operating and improving a growing facility.
Scope to take on greater responsibility as the production team expands.
Work on manufacturing processes supporting more sustainable ingredients.
