Property Claims Handler
Location: Chelmsford
Salary: £33,000 – £40,000 depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus
Are you an experienced Property Claims Handler looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference to customers?
We’re working with an established insurance business in Chelmsford that is looking for a customer-focused and organised Property Claims Handler to join its team. This is an opportunity to take ownership of property claims from initial notification through to settlement, ensuring every claim is investigated thoroughly, handled fairly and managed in line with policy terms.
You'll be joining a business that places real importance on customer care, professional service and achieving fair outcomes, recognising that making an insurance claim can often be a stressful experience.
The Role
You'll manage a varied caseload of property claims, working closely with policyholders, contractors, surveyors and other third-party specialists to ensure claims progress efficiently and customers are kept informed throughout.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Managing claims from first notification of loss through investigation, assessment and settlement.
-
Reviewing policy coverage and investigating the circumstances of each claim.
-
Gathering information and assessing damage, repair estimates, invoices and associated costs.
-
Coordinating with loss adjusters, surveyors, contractors and other specialists where required.
-
Assessing claims and agreeing settlements within your authority, escalating more complex matters when necessary.
-
Maintaining accurate claims records, reserves and diary updates, ensuring outstanding actions are followed up promptly.
-
Identifying potential fraud indicators and pursuing recoveries where appropriate.
-
Managing customer expectations and ensuring policyholders receive a fair, supportive and professional service.
-
Recognising vulnerable customers and potential complaints, ensuring these are handled appropriately.
-
Working collaboratively with colleagues and third parties to support positive customer outcomes.
About You
We're looking for someone with experience in insurance claims handling, ideally with a background in property claims, who can combine technical knowledge with a strong customer-focused approach.
You'll also bring:
-
A good understanding of insurance policies and claims assessment.
-
Strong investigative skills, with the ability to analyse information and make informed decisions.
-
Excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
-
Confident communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage customer expectations.
-
A well-organised approach to managing a varied caseload and prioritising deadlines.
-
Empathy, sound judgement and a commitment to treating customers fairly.
-
The confidence to recognise potential issues and escalate claims when appropriate.
-
A proactive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A relevant insurance or financial services qualification would be beneficial but isn't essential if you have the right experience. Support with further professional development and relevant qualifications is available.
What's on Offer?
Alongside a salary of £33,000 – £40,000, depending on experience, plus a performance-related bonus, you'll benefit from:
-
A four-day working week – enjoy a better work-life balance.
-
Generous annual leave – 23 days' holiday plus bank holidays.
-
Strong pension contributions – an enhanced employer pension contribution of 6–8%.
-
Enhanced family leave – a supportive approach to family commitments.
-
Company celebrations – summer and Christmas parties.
-
Professional development – opportunities to build your technical knowledge and gain relevant qualifications.
