Sewell Wallis is currently recruiting for an Interim Financial Controller to join a leading manufacturing business in South Yorkshire.
This is a key role within the finance function, offering an experienced manufacturing finance professional the opportunity to take ownership of financial control, provide commercial insight and support senior stakeholders with accurate financial analysis and modelling.
The role is initially offered on a 6-month fixed-term contract and is based in North Sheffield. Ideally, the successful candidate will be site-based, although hybrid working can be considered for candidates travelling from further afield.
Reporting into the senior finance team, you'll lead a small finance team while taking responsibility for financial reporting, standard costing, forecasting and financial modelling. You'll work closely with operational and commercial stakeholders, using your understanding of manufacturing performance to provide meaningful insight and challenge.
What will you be doing?
Take ownership of the financial control and management accounting function within a manufacturing environment.
Lead, manage and develop a small team, providing clear direction and supporting their professional development.
Oversee month-end reporting, ensuring accurate and timely financial information is produced.
Provide detailed analysis of manufacturing performance, identifying key drivers and variances.
Own and develop standard costing, ensuring costs are accurate, robust and reflective of current manufacturing activity.
Analyse product costs, labour, materials and overheads, providing insight into cost movements and profitability.
Build and maintain sophisticated financial models to support forecasting, scenario planning and business decision-making.
Lead forecasting activities and provide detailed analysis of actual performance against budget and forecast.
Work closely with operational and commercial teams to understand financial performance and challenge assumptions.
Provide financial insight to support pricing, product costing and wider commercial decisions.
Analyse weekly and monthly variances, clearly communicating key findings and recommended actions to senior stakeholders.
Oversee relevant intercompany and turnover transactions, ensuring appropriate financial controls are maintained.
Support business change initiatives and wider finance projects.
Identify opportunities to improve reporting, modelling, costing and financial processes.
Deputise for senior finance leadership when required.What experience are we looking for?
We're looking for an experienced manufacturing finance professional who can operate at a senior level while remaining hands-on.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
A recognised accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA, although candidates with strong relevant experience who are qualified by experience will also be considered.
Significant experience working within a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge and practical experience of standard costing and manufacturing accounting.
Proven experience producing and working with complex financial models, with advanced Excel skills.
Strong understanding of product costing, overhead allocation and manufacturing variances.
Previous experience of leading, managing and developing a finance team.
A strong understanding of management accounts, forecasting and financial reporting.
Experience partnering with operational and commercial stakeholders and providing clear financial insight.
The ability to analyse large volumes of data and translate this into meaningful information for senior decision-makers.
A proactive approach to identifying improvements and challenging existing processes.
The confidence and adaptability to make an immediate impact in an interim position.What's on offer?
Salary of up to £70,000
£315 per month car allowance
