Homelessness and Prevention Officer

Rate: £30.00 per hour (Umbrella)
Initial contract: 3 months
Working hours: 37 hours per week

Role summary
You will work directly with individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, providing high-quality housing advice and taking proactive steps to prevent or relieve homelessness wherever possible.
The role will involve assessing homelessness applications, developing Personal Housing Plans and working closely with clients, landlords and partner agencies to identify sustainable housing solutions, including private rented and social housing.
What you will do as a Homelessness and Prevention Officer
·Interview customers to understand their circumstances, housing needs and risk of homelessness.
·Provide tailored housing advice and take appropriate steps to prevent and relieve homelessness.
·Create, manage and review Personal Housing Plans, agreeing practical actions with customers to address the causes of their housing situation.
·Investigate and assess homelessness applications in accordance with relevant legislation, guidance and case law.
·Make informed decisions on homelessness applications and ensure customers are clearly advised of the outcome and their housing options.
·Arrange suitable temporary accommodation where required and liaise with relevant support providers.
·Help customers explore alternative accommodation, including opportunities within the private rented sector.
What you will need as a Homelessness and Prevention Officer
·Previous experience assessing homelessness applications and making homelessness-related decisions.
·Experience working directly with customers to prevent and relieve homelessness.
·Strong working knowledge of relevant homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
·Experience developing and managing Personal Housing Plans and progressing cases to appropriate outcomes.
·Strong interviewing, investigation and decision-making skills.
·Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex housing matters clearly to customers from a wide range of backgrounds.
