Health & Safety Advisor salary: £50,000 – £55,000

Health & Safety Advisor Overview:

This Health & Safety Advisor role is with a long-established operational business in Poole, supporting a busy environment involving vehicle movements, forklifts, transport activity, lifting operations and hazardous substances. The Health & Safety Advisor will have a strong presence across the operation, working closely with employees and managers to identify risks, improve standards and develop a positive safety culture.
This is primarily a hands-on Health & Safety position rather than a wider compliance role. The Health & Safety Advisor will have autonomy over day-to-day H&S activity while reporting into the wider Compliance and Risk function.
The Health & Safety Advisor role
As Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll spend significant time out across the operation rather than working solely from a desk. You’ll carry out site walks, investigate incidents, review procedures, deliver inductions and work with teams to resolve issues before they become larger problems.
The business wants someone who can challenge unsafe practices when necessary while remaining approachable and practical. The Health & Safety Advisor will need to build trust across the workforce and help people understand why changes are needed rather than relying purely on enforcement.
Day-to-day responsibilities of a Health & Safety Advisor
Carry out regular site walks, inspections and safety observations
Review and maintain risk assessments, RAMS, COSHH assessments and safe working procedures
Support DSEAR requirements and safe management of flammable or hazardous substances
Take a leading role in fire prevention and wider fire safety activity
Monitor H&S around forklifts, transport, workplace vehicles and lifting operations
Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and complete RIDDOR reporting where required
Track actions following incidents, inspections and audits through to closure
Deliver H&S inductions and support ongoing employee safety training
Coordinate and contribute to regular H&S meetings
Carry out internal audits and support progress towards ISO 45001
Maintain awareness of ISO 14001 and wider management system requirements
Review and improve H&S policies, procedures and supporting documentation
Produce clear reports and provide updates to management on risks and improvement activityWhat they’re looking for - Health & Safety Advisor
Previous Health & Safety or SHE experience within a busy operational environment
Experience with risk assessments, RAMS and COSHH
Confident investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
Understanding of RIDDOR and formal incident reporting requirements
Knowledge of fire safety and practical fire prevention measures
Comfortable working around forklifts, transport, vehicle movements or lifting operations
Experience carrying out internal audits and supporting management systems
Knowledge of ISO 45001 or involvement in implementation activity
Able to write and improve H&S policies and procedures
Confident delivering inductions, toolbox talks or employee safety training
Strong communicator who can work effectively with both operational staff and managementDesirable - Health & Safety Advisor
DSEAR awareness or experience working around flammable substances
ISO 14001 exposure
Background in manufacturing, automotive, logistics, recycling, warehousing or similar
Experience within mixed indoor/outdoor operational environments
Formal H&S qualification such as NEBOSH or equivalent
Experience supporting external audits or certification activity

Health & Safety Advisor salary: £50,000 – £55,000
A 37.5-hour Monday to Friday working week with 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
