Working pattern: Hybrid – minimum 2 days per week office-based in Rugby
Lynx Employment Services is recruiting an experienced Homelessness & Prevention Officer to join a busy housing service on a temporary contract.
This role would suit an experienced Housing Options or Homelessness Officer who is confident managing cases independently and has strong working knowledge of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and homelessness legislation. The successful candidate will interview applicants, investigate homelessness applications, make statutory decisions and work proactively with individuals and families to prevent or relieve homelessness.
The Role
You will manage a varied homelessness caseload, including:
Interviewing customers and assessing their housing circumstances
Assessing homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996
Applying the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Homelessness Act 2002, relevant case law and statutory guidance
Making and issuing statutory homelessness decisions
Developing and monitoring Personal Housing Plans
Taking appropriate action to prevent and relieve homelessness
Arranging temporary accommodation where required
Helping customers access private rented and social housing
Liaising with landlords, families, support providers and partner agencies
Maintaining accurate case records, including H-CLIC reportable actions
Undertaking home visits where required
What We're Looking For
This is not an entry-level housing role. Applicants should have recent, hands-on experience dealing with homelessness applications and be able to demonstrate:
Strong knowledge of Housing Act 1996 Part VII
Knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
Previous experience making decisions on homelessness applications
Experience working directly with customers to prevent homelessness
Confidence conducting detailed customer interviews and explaining complex decisions
Strong case management and prioritisation skills
Ability to work effectively with partner agencies
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for home visits
A Basic DBS check is required for the role.
