They are seeking a senior lawyer to support their Head of Risk and Compliance in maintaining and promoting the highest standards of legal, regulatory, and ethical compliance
In this role, you will act as a senior adviser on a wide range of risk and compliance issues, deliver prompt and pragmatic advice to lawyers and senior stakeholders, supervise and mentor junior team members, and play a lead role in shaping strategic risk and compliance projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on anti-money laundering (AML), conflicts of interest, supplier risk, client engagement letters/terms of business, and professional conduct.
- Advise on data protection matters within the function, including managing breaches, conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments and Legitimate Interests Assessments and assessing regulatory requirements.
- Advise on emerging regulatory issues, including AI, and help develop team processes and ways of working using AI tools.
- Conduct risk and compliance assessments of prospective suppliers (due diligence and contract reviews) and contribute to the firm’s file audit programme.
- Draft, implement, and update firm-wide compliance policies. Lead and deliver key compliance projects and prepare reports for senior management.
- Design and deliver internal training programmes while supervising and developing junior colleagues.
- Identifying and prioritising internal risk and compliance issues, leading and delivering risk and compliance projects as well as projects across the firm that require strategic risk and compliance input.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer, typically with at least 3 years’ PQE gained in risk and compliance within private practice (candidates with non-standard PQE but relevant experience are encouraged to apply).
- Strong working knowledge of data protection law, contract law, and the legal/regulatory standards applicable to law firms (including AML and conflicts of interest).
- Proven track record of advising senior stakeholders, managing complex compliance issues, and drafting/implementing best-practice standards.
- Excellent legal analysis, drafting, and attention to detail; a pragmatic, collaborative, and proactive approach; confidence in engaging senior leadership; and an interest in legal technology/AI.
