JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, an incumbent of this position is responsible for implementing prescribed physical therapy programs using diverse modalities, exercise and ambulation as assigned by the supervising Physical Therapist. This position differs from the Physical Therapist in that the duties of a Physical Therapist Assistant shall not include evaluation, testing interpretation, planning, or modification of patient plan of care.
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (* = Essential Functions)
Provides patients with treatment using proper techniques and modalities such as hot packs, cold packs, ultrasound, high and low volt electrical stimulation, diathermy, whirlpool, paraffin, and other such therapeutic modalities
Instructs patients in home treatment programs and adaptive techniques in preparation for discharge and as part of on-going therapy;
Assists patients in performing prescribed exercise programs i.e. passive range of motion, active assistive exercise, active exercise, progressive resistive exercise;
Assists the licensed professional Physical Therapist in analyzing patient’s gait training to determine progress of therapy
Instructs patients in proper ambulation techniques, transfer training, i.e., getting in and out of chairs, bed;
Confers with the supervising Physical Therapist, as designated, on all matters dealing with questions, problems and progress in connection with any physical therapy program. Assists the licensed professional Physical Therapist in determining the proper equipment to be used by patients.
Performs related duties to insure adequate and effective services to patients, as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist. Observes and documents patient reactions to prescribed therapies
Maintains proper clinical records, as well as physical therapy equipment and equipment area.
Attends staff conferences and in-service training programs, as assigned. Participates in performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assists in maintaining compliance with DOH accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including code of conduct.

Hours: Per Diem, Day Shift with Saturdays as scheduled.
Salary: $27.00 - $34.50 per hour based on experience with a $2.00 per diem incentive.

Requirements:
Experience
6 months or more of practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Education
Associates Degree in Physical Therapy
Certified or licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of N.Y.
Certifications/Skills
Ability to learn new tasks and the use of new equipment
Ability to make sound judgments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Knowledge of bio-mechanics and physical therapy standards and practices.
Ability to read, interpret and follow detailed oral, written and illustrated instructions.
Knowledge of a wide variety of physical therapy equipment and instruments, computer skills preferred.
