Job Overview:
This position is based in the Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center Rehabilitation Services Department with a primary focus on providing general Speech - Language Pathology (SLP) evaluations and treatments which impact patient’s functional abilities.
*Salary: $39.18-$50.06 per hour/DOE*
*Responsibilities:*
* The SLP provides services by physician referral in multiple settings; including inpatient, outpatient, Home Health and Long Term Care. Provides assessment, performs evaluation,
* Develop, implement and conduct patient education and therapy programs based on patient and/or family needs.
* Community Service. Therapy services may be performed outside of Mt Edgecumbe Medical Center in conjunction with SEARHC Community Health Services programs and the community at large including Mt. Edgecumbe High School Student Health Clinic, SEARHC Community clinics, Community Senior Centers, home assessments and other collaborative efforts between CHS and MEH.
Qualifications:
*Education*
* Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program. Progressively responsible professional/exempt work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.
*Experience*
* 3 years of experience providing therapy to the patient population served by this position. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
* Acute care hospital experience of at least three years including subspecialty areas of dysphasia and neurology is preferred
* Experience with modified barium swallow / video fluoroscopic swallowing studies and bedside “clinical” swallowing examinations, preferred
*License*
* Licensed in the field of Speech Language Pathology. AK License required within 6 months of hire.
* Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
* Basic Life Support certification
* Valid Driver’s License
*Knowledge, Skills *
* Physiology of speech production and swallowing including respiration, phonation, articulation resonance anatomic structures, neuroanatomy and neurophysiology supporting speech, language, hearing, swallowing, respiration, the vocal/aero digestive tract and organic etiologies of disorders of communication. In order to administer a variety of standardized assessments, being able to select the most appropriate test for a specific client and implement treatments accordingly.
* Various techniques for providing sound assessments, evaluation & treatment planning, and treatments for patients presenting various diagnosis with functional deficits among the general population.
* Regulations and practice standards as they relate to SLP including billing mechanisms (Medicaid, Medicare and third party payers) that may be available for patient equipment and service.
*Skills:*
* SLP evaluation and treatment skills: skill in assessing, treating and evaluating speech and language therapy patients while synthesizing knowledge of neurological diseases and formulating the results of evaluation into a treatment plan to assist physicians and other professional health staff in proper diagnosis and treatment including modified barium swallow exams
* Expressing self clearly and effectively in written and spoken communication, such as in both daily documentation of written reports, client progress notes, narrative summaries, as well as in effectively training clinical and non-clinical staff; consulting with upper management, outside agencies, organizations, and subordinates; networking with other providers in the community; and proficient in public speaking.
* Utilizing information technology. Proficiency with computers including multiple software applications, interface with multiple programs and use of laptops, tablets and imaging devices.
