The Opportunity
We're working in partnership with a well-established organisation in Southend-on-Sea to recruit a Health & Safety Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a recognised H&S qualification who is looking to develop their career within a varied, multi-site environment.
This role will support the delivery of high standards in health, safety, and property compliance across a diverse property portfolio, working closely with internal teams to ensure all sites meet current legislative and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery and maintenance of health & safety and compliance standards across multiple sites
Assist with facilities management activities across office environments and residential settings
Conduct fire safety reviews, including evacuation procedures and fire drills
Carry out risk assessments, including workstation assessments and PEEPs
Review and update operational risk assessments and safety documentation
Provide practical health & safety advice to teams, including:
Manual handling
COSHH
Safe use of equipment
Support with fire and premises risk assessments, tracking and following up on required actions
Maintain accurate compliance records and assist with reporting
Conduct property inspections to identify hazards and raise maintenance actions
Promote a strong health & safety culture across staff, contractors, and visitors
About You
Essential:
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
Knowledge of health & safety legislation, ideally within property or housing environments
Strong attention to detail and ability to review compliance data and risk assessments
Confident communicator, able to provide clear and practical guidance
Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
Full UK driving licence
Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel
Desirable:
Experience within property, facilities management, or social housing
Experience conducting inspections, audits, and risk assessments
Experience supporting operational teams on health & safety matters
Additional Information
This role requires a DBS check (can be arranged)
Travel between sites will be required
