Academics are currently recruiting for a Student Mental Health Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Gloucester. This rewarding role involves supporting students with a range of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, alongside autism and associated learning differences, within a supportive environment.
This opportunity is ideal for graduates or individuals considering future careers in psychology, therapy, counselling, teaching, or youth work who are looking to build meaningful experience working directly with young people.
The Role - Student Mental Health Assistant
Support students with emotional regulation, wellbeing, and engagement in learning
Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
Assist with behaviour strategies and promote positive coping mechanisms
Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interactionWhat We're Looking For
A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
Experience supporting SEN, SEMH, or challenging behaviour
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Interest in mental health, SEN, and child development
Psychology, counselling, education, or related background desirable
Previous experience with young people or mental health beneficial but not essentialWhat's on Offer
