Complex Needs Learning Support Assistant Basingstoke
Prospero Teaching is seeking a caring, committed Complex Needs Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive school environment in Basingstoke. This role involves working closely with pupils who have a range of complex learning, communication, medical, and developmental needs, providing them with structure, reassurance, and personalised day-to-day support.
This position is ideal for someone with experience in SEND, care, support work, or those looking to make a meaningful impact within a specialist educational environment. The school is looking for individuals who are patient, resilient, and confident supporting pupils with high levels of need.
The Role:
Provide daily 1:1 support for pupils with complex needs (ASD, PMLD, medical needs, physical needs, sensory needs, etc.)
Support pupils communication, engagement, and independence
Assist with structured routines, sensory activities, and adapted learning tasks
Use visual supports, communication aids, and personalised tools where required
Provide emotional reassurance, consistency, and calm guidance
Work alongside therapists, SENCOs, and specialist teaching staff
Support with personal care where appropriate (training provided)
Help maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning atmosphere
Ideal Candidate:
Experience supporting children or adults with complex needs (school, care, residential, SEN, or therapy settings)
Calm, patient, emotionally resilient, and able to remain positive under pressure
Comfortable working closely with pupils who need high levels of support
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Compassionate, reliable, and committed to fostering pupil development
Graduates with interest in SEND, psychology, education, or social care welcome

Position: Complex Needs Learning Support Assistant
Location: Basingstoke
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Fullterm
Pay: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour
Duration: Long-term/temp
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
Experience with complex needs preferred
Manual handling, PECs, Makaton, or sensory training beneficial (not essential)
Safeguarding training can be provided
Eligibility:
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced DBS (update service) or willingness to apply
Ability to provide two references
