Assistant Transport Manager
Cantello Tayler Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Assistant Transport Manager to join a well-established and growing foodservice distribution business based in Uxbridge. This is a critical role with responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of a busy transport department and ensuring all deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and in line with customer expectations.
Working 11pm – 8am, 6 days a week Monday – Saturday, competitive salary and benefits.
The Assistant Transport Manager will support the Transport Manager in the smooth running of the transport operation, leading drivers and ensuring all compliance, service and performance standards are consistently achieved.
You will be a hands-on leader with strong organisational and people management skills, able to motivate teams and drive continuous improvement within a fast-paced distribution environment.
Assistant Transport Manager duties include:

Oversee daily transport operations and ensure all delivery SLAs and schedules are achieved

Lead, manage and motivate a team of 40+ drivers and transport staff

Ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, company policies and H&S requirements

Monitor driver performance, conduct reviews and address absence or conduct issues

Support route planning and operational efficiency improvements

Ensure all vehicles and drivers remain fully compliant (licences, MOTs, servicing, insurance and legal requirements)

Maintain clear communication between transport and other departments

Manage rota scheduling, payroll submissions and annual leave processes

Investigate and report on incidents, accidents and compliance issues

Audit fuel card usage and support cost control measures

Train, coach and develop new and existing transport staff

Provide holiday and operational cover for the Transport Manager when required
Assistant Transport Manager required skills and experience:
-
CPC qualified
-
Valid UK Class 1 & 2 driving licence
-
Minimum 5 years’ multi-drop delivery driving experience

Previous transport or logistics supervisory experience

Experience managing large driver teams (40+ staff)

Strong knowledge of transport compliance and HGV operations

Experience within FMCG, foodservice, warehouse or distribution environments

Excellent organisational and communication skills

Confident managing performance and holding difficult conversations

Flexible, hands-on approach with the ability to support operations when required
