Environment, Health & Safety Assistant
Location: Sandwich, Kent
Salary: Please confirm if £31.50 includes our rates or not (per hour)
Contract role until February 2027
Our client, a respected and innovative R&D‑focused organisation, is seeking an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Assistant to support safety standards across its UK research sites. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their EHS career within a high‑performing and supportive team.
Hours: Standard Monday–Friday hours, with some flexibility for audits or emergencies
Occasional travel to other UK R&D sites

The role
As the EHS Assistant, you will help ensure compliance with UK EHS regulations and internal safety standards across multiple R&D sites. You will play a hands‑on role in safety systems, inspections and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities

Support Safe Systems of Work across R&D sites

Review RAMS, issue permits and communicate to relevant personnel

Carry out on‑site performance checks and stop unsafe work when required

Coordinate statutory inspection schedules and actions

Assist with audit preparation and follow‑up

Complete workplace inspections
-
Support the management of the Declaration of Conformity documentation
-
Assist with the completion and review of risk assessments
-
Participate in change control processes
-
Help review EHS risks for new equipment, materials and processes
-
Support incident and near‑miss investigations
-
Conduct root cause analysis and track actions
-
Support the EHS group mailbox
-
Prepare communications for company‑wide safety messages
-
Assist in drafting and reviewing procedures
-
Contribute to performance reporting and data analysis

Help drive a culture of continuous EHS improvement
Skills & experience
-
Knowledge of UK EHS regulations
-
Understanding of RAMS, incident investigation and auditing
-
Strong organisational and documentation abilities
-
Good communication and teamwork skills
-
Excellent attention to detail
-
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Teams
-
NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
-
Pharmaceutical experience is an advantage
