Job Title: Technical Assistant
Salary: £35,000 - £37,000 per annum (DOE)
Location: Northampton
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time (Part Time considered – circa 32 hours)

Overview:
We are recruiting for a Technical Assistant to join a leading food manufacturing business based in Northampton. This role is suited to technical and quality professionals with a strong understanding of food safety and quality standards within a factory environment.
As Technical Assistant, you will support the Technical Team in delivering safe, legal and high-quality food products through auditing, quality systems management, hygiene standards and continuous improvement activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a long-term career within food manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities for the Technical Assistant:
- Support Technical Services and Quality Management Systems
- Maintain site certifications including BRCGS, Red Tractor, Organic and BMPA
- Conduct internal audits and manage testing schedules
- Monitor GMP, hygiene and factory quality standards
- Create and maintain product and raw material specifications
- Support food labelling and legal compliance
- Investigate quality and technical issues to root cause
- Implement Quality Action Plans and continuous improvement projects
- Support NPD trials and maintain technical records
- Conduct microbiological sampling and analytical testing (pH, salt, etc.)
- Audit cleaning and hygiene standards
- Support supplier approval and management
- Ensure the site QMS is audit-ready
- Champion food safety culture across site
Candidate Requirements for the Technical Assistant:
- Good understanding of food safety principles in manufacturing
- Experience in a high-risk chilled food or meat processing environment preferred
- Knowledge of BRCGS Food Safety Standards (Red Tractor / Organic beneficial)
- Understanding of GMP, hygiene and contamination control
- Knowledge of food labelling and food law desirable
- Ability to assess risks to food safety, quality, legality and authenticity
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Flexible, proactive and willing to learn
- Food Science / Food Technology qualification desirable
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday
Shifts between 06:00–16:00, 07:30–17:30 or 08:00–18:00
