Role Overview
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial management of construction projects with a strong emphasis on joinery and interior fit-out works. The role involves assisting with cost control, procurement, valuations and subcontractor management, ensuring projects are delivered commercially in line with contractual and company requirements. Previous hands-on or commercial experience within joinery or bespoke interior works is essential.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and management of project budgets, cost plans and forecasts

Support the procurement of joinery packages, materials and subcontractors

Measure and value joinery works from drawings, schedules and site records

Assist with the preparation and submission of interim valuations and final accounts

Monitor variations, change control and associated cost impacts, particularly relating to joinery and fit-out scopes

Support the preparation of subcontractor payment applications and cost reconciliation

Liaise with site teams, designers, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure commercial alignment

Assist in identifying cost risks and value engineering opportunities within joinery packages

Maintain accurate commercial records and reporting in line with company procedures
Skills & Experience

Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee QS within construction

Proven experience or strong background in joinery, carpentry or interior fit-out works

Good understanding of construction drawings, specifications and joinery details

Basic knowledge of standard forms of contract (e.g. JCT)

Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general commercial software

Good communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with site and commercial teams
Qualifications

Degree or working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar (preferred but not essential)

Trade background or technical qualification in joinery/carpentry considered an advantage
