Overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-driven Assistant Technical Manager / QA Manager to join a site-based technical team at our food manufacturing facility in Norfolk. This role supports the delivery of high standards in food safety, quality, legality and customer compliance, working closely with production, hygiene and operational teams on the factory floor.
The Assistant Technical Manager plays a key role in ensuring that products consistently meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements, while helping to maintain and improve technical systems and processes. This is a hands-on position, well suited to someone looking to develop their technical career in a fast-paced, customer-driven manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities

Support the Technical Manager in maintaining food safety, quality and compliance systems across the factory.

Act as a day-to-day technical presence on site, providing guidance and support to production teams to meet customer and legal standards.

Assist with the management and upkeep of HACCP, quality management systems, and site procedures.

Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to customer specifications, product standards and internal controls.

Support investigations into quality issues, non-conformances and customer complaints, ensuring timely root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Assist with internal audits, customer audits and third-party inspections, including preparation of documentation and site readiness.

Carry out routine quality checks, sampling, traceability tests and shelf-life activities as required.

Support new product introductions, trials and process changes from a technical and customer compliance perspective.

Help compile technical reports, KPI data and quality records for internal review and customer use.

Promote a strong food safety and quality culture throughout the factory.
Experience & Skills

Experience in a technical, quality or food safety role within food manufacturing or processing (meat or poultry experience desirable but not essential).

Working knowledge of food safety principles and standards such as HACCP, BRCGS, Red Tractor, Organic or equivalent assurance schemes.

Understanding of customer specifications and the importance of meeting retailer and foodservice requirements.

Confident communicator, able to engage with colleagues on the factory floor and escalate issues appropriately.

Strong attention to detail with an organised and methodical approach to record-keeping and problem solving.

Willingness to be hands-on, visible in production areas and proactive in supporting operational teams.

Competent IT skills, including quality systems, spreadsheets and report writing.

A qualification in food science, food technology, agriculture or a related discipline is desirable, but practical experience will also be considered.
