Our client based in Saffron Walden is seeking an adaptable and practical Office Facilities and Maintenance Assistant to help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of a busy office. This hands-on role is ideal for someone early in their career, semi-retired or simply someone who enjoys a varied, practical position.
Responsibilities
- Carry out minor repairs such as replacing bulbs, basic plumbing fixes or adjusting furniture
- Monitor the overall condition of the office and escalate larger issues to external contractors
- Conduct routine checks on office infrastructure including heating, cooling and plumbing systems
- Maintain inventories of supplies and ensure stock is replenished
- Oversee cleaning schedules and liaise with external cleaning teams
- Assist with health and safety compliance and perform basic risk assessments
- Ensure fire safety equipment is tested and maintained
- Act as a first point of contact for safety or maintenance concerns
- Work with suppliers, service providers and maintenance contractors
- Source quotes, arrange repairs and coordinate service visits
- Keep service contracts and associated invoices up to date
- Receive, check and organise deliveries of equipment and supplies
- Occasionally carry out local errands such as collecting supplies or delivering equipment
- Support office moves, reconfigurations and refurbishments
- Prepare workstations and equipment for new starters
- Help maintain company vehicles, including organising servicing, insurance, fuel and routine upkeep
Requirements
Essential:
- Practical, hands-on approach%3B some facilities or maintenance experience beneficial but not required
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Confident working independently and proactively identifying issues
- Basic DIY skills (minor electrical, plumbing, furniture assembly, etc.)
- Clear communication skills for liaising with internal teams and external contractors
- Full UK driving licence
- Comfortable with a varied role that may involve physical tasks
Desirable:
- Experience in a facilities, maintenance or operational role
- Understanding of basic health and safety requirements
- Knowledge of building systems (heating, plumbing, electrical)
- Previous experience in a start-up or fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage simple budgets
- Basic IT competence (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Any relevant HandS or facilities training or certifications
