Chief Actuary - Johannesburg - Old Mutual
The Chief Actuary is a pivotal role that oversees the design, development, and implementation of an actuarial risk framework across multiple business channels and products. This individual will enable informed strategic decision-making on complex business issues affecting the financial sustainability of the organization.
This position encompasses all Old Mutual Insure businesses, as well as subsidiaries of OMI, with responsibilities including:
- Actuarial talent ownership through managing the Actuarial Job Family, ensuring optimal skill utilization.
- Fostering a positive risk culture throughout the organization, promoting collaborative risk management.
- Introducing advanced modeling techniques to analyze emerging trends and inform organizational risks, staying ahead of market dynamics.
- Ensuring data quality, quantity, and breadth by working closely with risk, data, and analytics functions, maximizing insights.
- Providing regular reports to the Executive Committee and Board on risk exposure relative to risk appetite and tolerance, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of actuarial models, conducting thorough analysis and providing actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Possess a deep understanding of actuarial principles, methodologies, and tools.
- Hold a relevant professional qualification, such as FIA or FSA.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement.
- Showcase strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
- Have a solid understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
