Senior Accountant
My client, a 2nd tier accounting firm based in the heart of Port Elizabeth, is looking for a Senior Accountant.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and initiate the processing of client information receipts, sales invoices, purchase invoices.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Process and reconcile Petty Cash and cash control accounts.
- Maintain a fixed asset register.
- Manage general journals (e.g., depreciation, provisions, interest, salaries, stock).
- Process journal entries for new instalment sale agreements, interest on borrowings, provisions, accruals of income and expenses, bad debts.
- Distinguish between finance and operating leases.
- Handle foreign exchange transactions.
- Reconcile debtors and creditors statements.
- Ensure correct accounting treatment on disposal of assets and calculate taxation on capital gains/losses.
- Analyse the trial balance for mistakes/deviations and discuss results with clients.
- Conduct analytical reviews of AFS (e.g., GP%, Inventory days, Creditors days, Debtors days).
- Record books from insufficient records.
- Produce draft financials according to generally accepted accounting practices.
- Prepare notes to financial statements.
- Identify provisions and contingent liabilities.
- Calculate tax liability for various entities.
- Engage in tax planning (e.g., fringe benefits and allowances).
- Perform vouching tests during audits.
- Calculate PAYE/UIF/SDL levies and VAT.
- Complete statutory returns (e.g., UIF/SDL/PAYE/VAT).
- Compile and discuss monthly management accounts with clients.
- Complete tax returns for individuals, close corporations, trusts, and body corporates.
- Identify shortcomings in internal controls and risks.
- Review monthly files of junior to intermediate accountants.
- Complete and review Management representation letters.
- Qualify the report of an Accounting Officer.

Experience: Six years plus relevant accounting experience.
