Job Title: Non-Conformity Cell Quality Technician – Durban (Limited Duration – Project)

THE PURPOSE OF THE NON-CONFORMITY CELL QUALITY TECHNICIAN ROLE IS TO:
Drive/lead the process of non-conformities on purchased parts (co-parts, suppliers, free parts, customers, sub-contractors) from the defect characterization on production area, re-feeding to the line, containment and closure of curative actions.
THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE:
- Characterize the defect on purchased parts (5W2H) and write the relevant reports (NCR: Non-conformity reports) with the objective to limit production disturbances.
- Secure the production line ensuring that no other defective part is available with a clear mapping (physical identification and parts in restricted area).
- Organize the re-feeding to the line with new conform parts within the takt-time of the line (if part is available in stocks).
- Organize the first level of containment with management of control and sorting activities (internal, and coordination for supplier).
- Block (or ask to block) stock for non-conform parts.
- Ask for new control key in ERP for incoming inspection for upcoming deliveries and provide inspection criteria.
- Create Non-conformity reports in ERP and SQP (Supplier Quality Portal).
- Notify NCR to supplier via Supplier Quality Portal tool (NCR module) for NCR with supplier or expertise liability.
- Participate in daily and weekly meetings with various stakeholders.
- Relevant Quality KPI of NCR cell:
- Number of opened and closed non-conformities.
- Re-feeding lead time (time between declaration of defect and availability of replacement part on the line).
- Status of containment (WIP and warehouse).
- Lead time of notification to suppliers.
- Lead time of supplier containment.
- Blocked stock value.
- % of NCR liability change.
- Number of non-conformities under expertise.
- Average time spent in restricted area.
- Overall non-conformity process time.
EHS:
- Ensure the application of safety guidelines and proper use of manufacturing equipment.
- Enforce the application of prevention plans.
- Take all required actions when confronted with any hazard.
- Report all deviation on the production line or in the warehouse.
- Organize problem solving within the department.
The preferred candidate will meet the following requirements:
- Diploma/Degree for Quality/Engineering Technician with 2 years rail experience.
- Strong Problem-Solving Techniques.
- Experience within Quality or Production.
- Knowledge of Alstom tools (SQP, SAP (GSI), Supplier Quality).
- Able to read and understand the drawing.
- Basic understanding of Supply Chain and Quality background. Reading drawings, inspection - preferable.
