Job Overview:
Seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Mechanical Fitter to join the maintenance team of a client. The successful candidate will be responsible for attending to breakdowns, conducting repairs, and performing preventive maintenance on plant equipment across two locations: Johannesburg and Donkerhoek. This dual-location role requires reliable transport for travel between the two plants as needed.
Key Responsibilities: Breakdown Repairs: - Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs on plant equipment to minimize downtime.
- Respond promptly to plant breakdowns, ensuring equipment is restored to optimal working condition.
- Ensure the correct tools, parts, and equipment are available for repairs.
Preventive Maintenance: - Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and plant equipment, including pumps, motors, conveyor systems, and other mechanical systems.
- Identify potential issues before they result in breakdowns and take necessary actions to prevent equipment failure.
Equipment Installation & Modifications: - Install and commission new equipment as required.
- Make modifications and improvements to existing machinery and systems to enhance performance, efficiency, and safety.
Safety & Compliance: - Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Comply with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations during maintenance activities.
Record Keeping & Reporting: - Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
- Report on breakdown trends, maintenance needs, and any issues that may affect plant operations to the Maintenance Supervisor
Collaboration & Support: - Work closely with the operations team to schedule maintenance activities and minimize disruption to plant operations.
- Assist in training other team members on proper maintenance procedures and best practices.
Key Requirements: Technical Expertise: - Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and plant equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical faults in industrial machinery.
Flexibility & Travel: - Must have reliable personal transport to commute between the two plant locations in Johannesburg and Donkerhoek (frequent travel required).
- Willingness to work on-call or outside regular working hours in the event of urgent breakdowns.
Safety Awareness: - Strong understanding of safety standards and practices in a plant maintenance environment.
- Ability to work in compliance with safety regulations, ensuring a safe work environment for all.
Problem-Solving & Efficiency: - Excellent troubleshooting skills with a focus on efficient and effective solutions to mechanical issues.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to minimize downtime.
Communication Skills: - Strong verbal and written communication skills to report issues, complete maintenance logs, and collaborate with team members.
Qualifications & Experience: Minimum Qualification: - Trade Qualification in Mechanical Fitting or a related field.
Experience: - At least 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Fitter in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience working with plant equipment, including pumps, motors, and conveyors.
Licenses: - Valid drivers license and reliable personal transport.
Preferred Skills: - Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems is an advantage.
- Welding or fabrication skills are a plus.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance scheduling and practices.
