We have an exciting opportunity to build a PMO and deliver Project Governance across our Energy Infrastructure Solutions business, ensuring that the organisation has the right structure in place to deliver its wide-ranging projects effectively and efficiently. The PMO Governance Lead will be responsible for designing, implementing, and embedding a comprehensive governance framework within a newly established PMO to drive project transparency, compliance, and performance. This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring that best practices and project controls are applied across a wide variety of projects, including safety, engineering, process improvement, and operational asset management.
Main responsibilities
- Design and Implement Project Governance Framework – Create a robust governance structure that includes reporting, project controls, compliance, and risk management. Ensure alignment with the organisation's broader business goals and PMO objectives.
- Collaboration with Project Teams – Work closely with Project Managers across the business to implement governance processes that suit the needs of diverse project types, including safety, engineering, process improvement, and asset management.
- Best Practice Development – Establish best practices for project delivery, resource management, risk mitigation, and decision-making. Tailor these practices to support the organisation's varied project portfolio, driving operational excellence and consistency.
- Governance Compliance – Ensure all projects adhere to agreed governance structures, providing clear guidelines on how to implement governance in the planning, execution, and closure phases of projects. Monitor compliance and provide ongoing support to Project Managers.
- Training and Support – Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to Project Managers within the PMO and across the business to ensure successful adoption of the governance framework. Deliver workshops and one-on-one support to build governance capability and lead the project manager network to allow for knowledge sharing and support.
- Continuous Improvement – Gather feedback from project teams and stakeholders to refine governance processes over time. Ensure that the governance framework remains adaptable and scalable to evolving business needs.
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s degree or in project management, business, engineering or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Project management certification in PRINCE2 or APMP.
- Proven experience establishing and implementing scalable and flexible governance frameworks in a PMO or project-driven environment, including risk management and project control.
- Solid project management experience across diverse areas such as safety, engineering, operational asset management, and process improvement, with expertise in governance best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders across departments, ensuring alignment with governance processes and achieving buy-in from senior leaders.
- Leadership skills with the initiative to take ownership of governance frameworks, along with experience mentoring Project Managers in governance practices.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, tailoring governance processes to meet various project needs, and ensuring compliance and reporting accuracy.
It would be great if you have:
- Experience in project management in regulated industries such as engineering, construction, or safety-focused environments.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and how they can integrate into a governance framework.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management) principles.
