European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km‑long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
For our Soft X‑Ray Port (SXP) group, which is primarily dedicated to investigations of time-resolved X-ray photo‑electron spectroscopy (TR-XPES) contemplating key questions in the dynamics of materials at surfaces and interfaces, we are looking for two
Postdoctoral Scientists
The successful candidate is going to focus on femtosecond time-resolved X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy on solids at high repetition rates. The offered position entails:
- Support to the user program of the SXP instrument by designing, preparing and performing time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy experiments on solids together with the SXP user community.
- Contribute to the SXP in‑house research program by developing or following‑up of a scientific research program in the field of low dimensional systems, correlated oxides and/or surface chemical reactions.
- Contribute to the maintenance and upgrade of the time resolved photoelectron spectroscopy station and the SXP instrument.
- Data processing and online/offline analysis using novel data processing approaches.
- Presentation of results in peer‑reviewed journals and at scientific conferences.
- PhD in physics, chemistry, or related discipline as well as passion for science and innovation.
- Proven experience in the field of time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy.
- Research experience on correlated oxides, low dimensional systems or chemical reactions will be an asset.
- Experience in Python and/or Igor Pro programming.
- Experience in operating femtosecond optical lasers, HHG sources, synchrotrons or FELs will be an asset.
- Experience in handling UHV instrumentation.
- High level of motivation with the ability to conduct independent work in a collaborative environment.
- Willingness to work in a diverse team of international scientists, engineers and technicians.
Become part of a vibrant international and multicultural team of scientists, engineers, technical and administrative staff. Be involved in cutting edge scientific and technical progress and participate in our international networks. Experience our atmosphere of tolerance and respect.
