The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a Youth Support Officer to join a supported accommodation service in Trowbridge, working with young people aged 16–25 who are facing homelessness, housing difficulties or the challenges of moving towards independent living.
This is a varied, hands-on role where you will help young people overcome barriers, develop essential life skills and work towards a more stable future. You will provide day-to-day guidance, housing support and encouragement, helping residents take greater responsibility for their lives and accommodation.
The service supports young people who may be dealing with difficult circumstances, including family breakdown, trauma, exploitation and substance misuse. You will play an important part in providing consistent support, identifying potential risks and helping each individual work towards their own goals.
What You'll Be Doing:
Deliver tailored one-to-one support, helping young people work towards greater independence.
Carry out initial assessments, develop support plans and regularly review individual progress.
Complete risk assessments and identify any changes in residents' circumstances or support needs.
Help young people access benefits, manage finances, maintain their accommodation and develop budgeting skills.
Provide guidance around education, employment, training and other opportunities.
Encourage positive routines, confidence-building and engagement with the local community.
Assist residents with their move-on plans and preparation for independent accommodation.
Monitor accommodation standards, complete property checks and report maintenance requirements.
Recognise safeguarding concerns and take appropriate action when incidents arise.
Maintain clear and up-to-date case notes, records and other relevant documentation.
Build relationships with external agencies and professionals to ensure young people receive the right support.
Contribute to a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for all residents. What We're Looking For:
Previous experience in a support, youth work, housing or similar role.
Confidence working with vulnerable individuals and young people.
Experience carrying out assessments, writing support plans and completing risk assessments.
Ability to manage a caseload and monitor individual progress.
A good understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with young people.
Someone organised, adaptable and comfortable working independently or within a team.
A genuine interest in helping young people overcome challenges and move towards independent living. If you're passionate about supporting young people and have the experience to help them make positive changes, we'd love to hear from you.
