Trainee Claims Consultant
South Cerney, Gloucestershire | £26,000–£28,500
Hybrid Working | Annual Bonus up to 10% | 10% Employer-Funded Pension
Looking for a role where your ability to listen, solve problems and support people can make a real difference?
CKB Recruitment is looking for a Trainee Claims Consultant to join a highly regarded financial services organisation in South Cerney.
You’ll help customers through the claims process while developing your technical knowledge. This opportunity could suit someone with claims experience or transferable skills from customer support, case management, investigation or handling complex queries.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Claims Team Leader, you’ll work towards managing a portfolio of income protection and critical illness claims, from initial notification through to reviewing ongoing payments.
You’ll learn to assess evidence, support fair decisions and keep claimants informed throughout the process. It’s a role combining attention to detail with empathy, sound judgement and the confidence to handle sensitive conversations.
What You’ll Be Doing
Supporting claims management from initial notification through to ongoing review.
Providing clear, proactive updates using each claimant’s preferred communication method.
Obtaining, reviewing and referring medical and financial information.
Considering relevant employment and occupational information.
Identifying when third-party support is needed and liaising with providers.
Recognising and investigating potential fraud concerns, escalating appropriately.
Following relevant procedures and regulatory requirements.
Working with colleagues to deliver a consistent, professional claims service.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll bring two to three years’ relevant experience in a similar role or a role offering transferable skills. Previous financial services experience would be helpful, but is not essential.
You should demonstrate:
Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
The ability to explain complex information clearly.
Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach.
Confidence reviewing information and recommending decisions.
Experience handling challenging conversations or resolving conflict.
The ability to stay calm under pressure and manage competing priorities.
A collaborative attitude and willingness to learn.
An understanding of regulations relevant to your work.
You should have GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent as a minimum.
A relevant professional qualification, or progress towards one, would be advantageous.
An Excellent Place to Work
With approximately 80 employees, the business is large enough to offer career opportunities while remaining small enough for colleagues to know one another.
Staff turnover is exceptionally low, and opportunities like this rarely arise. Training, development and a stable, enjoyable working environment are priorities.
The impressive, purpose-built offices sit near the South Cerney lakes, with comfortable lunch, breakout and relaxation areas.
CKB Recruitment has visited several times and has always been impressed by both the people and the working environment.
Salary and Benefits
£26,000–£28,500 basic salary, depending on experience.
Annual performance-related bonus of up to 10%, based on agreed KPIs.
10% non-contributory employer pension.
25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
Two additional paid volunteering days each year.
Private healthcare after three months.
Health cash plan.

Based in South Cerney, Gloucestershire, with office attendance approximately two to three days per week and the remaining days working from home.
