Health & Safety Trainer and Assessor
Help keep Britain’s water networks and the people who work on them safe
Every day, our client’s monitors tell water companies what is really happening inside their networks, from live foul and storm sewers to rivers, reservoirs and culverts. That data helps their clients understand their assets, build resilience and cut pollution. Behind it is a team of more than 240 people who need to be properly trained to do the job safely. That’s where you come in.
About the business
Our client is a specialist environmental field services business. They maintain more than 4,000 monitors every month with over 100 vans on the road across the UK. They hold CHAS, SMAS, Achilles and FORS accreditations and ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001 certifications. In plain terms, they do this properly and they do it safely.
The role
We’re looking for a qualified, experienced Health & Safety Trainer and Assessor to deliver accredited and non-accredited training across a range of safety-critical subjects. Based mainly at the business’s Worcester training centre, you’ll train and assess in the classroom, in practical sessions and on site, making sure everything you deliver meets awarding body, regulatory and company standards.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll deliver and assess health and safety courses for everyone from operatives to supervisors and managers, covering confined spaces, street works and road works (Chapter 8), cable avoidance (CAT and Genny), abrasive wheels and first aid. You’ll run fair, consistent practical and theory assessments, make accurate, defensible decisions, and complete all registers, assessment records, learner feedback and certification paperwork to awarding body and audit standards.
You’ll set up, maintain and safely operate the training and rescue equipment, including gas detectors, breathing apparatus, CAT and signal generators and first aid manikins, and carry out risk assessments for training areas and client sites so every learning environment is a safe one.
You’ll stay on top of changes in legislation, approved codes of practice and industry guidance and update course content to match, and you’ll take part in internal quality assurance, standardisation and external audits. You’ll occasionally travel to the business’s other depots and client sites around the UK to deliver training, and you’ll represent the business professionally with clients and learners, helping to drive repeat business.
What we’re looking for
You’ll hold a recognised teaching qualification, such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent, including PTLLS/CTLLS/DTLLS, a Cert Ed or a teaching degree), and a recognised assessor qualification, such as the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment and/or Assessing Vocational Achievement (or A1/D32/D33 equivalent). You’ll also need a full UK driving licence and be happy to travel occasionally.
We’d ideally like you to have technical qualifications and experience in one or more of the following areas:
Confined space: City & Guilds confined space suite, covering entry, working in and rescue.
Street works: Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Chapter 8), including the relevant NRSWA units.
Underground service avoidance: CAT and Genny, in line with HSG47.
Abrasive wheels: selection, mounting and safe use, with knowledge of PUWER.
First aid: Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work, with the trainer qualification to deliver Ofqual-regulated first aid courses.
You’ll bring proven experience delivering safety-critical training in the UK, a strong working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations, and a practical background in utilities, construction, civil engineering or a similar high-risk sector. You’ll be an excellent communicator and presenter with the knack of engaging and motivating learners of all abilities, and you’ll have strong administrative skills and accuracy with paperwork and digital records.
Ready to make a difference?
If you love turning knowledge into confidence and want your training to have a real impact, we’d love to hear from you
