There are jobs where you're brought in to run something...
Keep it moving.
Make a few improvements.
Hit the numbers.
Don't break anything.
This isn't one of those jobs.
We're looking for you to take responsibility for a global Sustainment organisation that has some very good things happening within it.
But it isn't yet where it needs to be.
And there's a significant five-year growth ambition that you'll be responsible for turning into a deliverable strategy.
So, this isn't a steady-state leadership role.
The function is relatively young and brings together a sizeable multidisciplinary team across MRO, Product & Engineering Support, Field Service Engineering, Customer Training, Technical Publications and Continuous Improvement.
Some parts of the organisation are performing strongly.
Others need developing.
There are people and capability challenges.
Processes and systems that can be improved.
A significant opportunity to make better use of data.
And a requirement for you to modernise the function and optimise the MRO strategy.
Which is why your first job isn't to arrive with all the answers.
It's for you to understand what's actually going on.
Deep dive the function.
The people.
The processes.
The systems.
The data.
Work out what needs to change.
Build the roadmap.
Then lead it.
Behind all of this is a substantial global installed base and an opportunity to develop the support and services offered throughout its lifecycle.
The objective?
To build a stronger, more commercially focused global Sustainment business.
One that delivers an exceptional customer experience whilst creating new opportunities for growth.
The role therefore sits somewhere between a General Manager, Transformation Leader and Global Customer Services Executive.
You'll need to be comfortable moving between a customer conversation, an operational problem, a commercial decision, an engineering discussion and a conversation about people.
Sometimes in the same day.
You don't have to have been the world's leading expert in every aspect of Sustainment.
But you will need the breadth and credibility to lead the people who are.
You might currently lead Sustainment, MRO, Aftermarket, Customer Support, Product Support, Services or a substantial Programme organisation with direct operational and commercial accountability.
Your background will be from within a complex, safety-critical and highly regulated engineering environment.
But we're more interested in the relevance of your experience than the specific industry you've worked in.
Your job title matters considerably less than what you've actually been responsible for.
What does matter?
Scale.
International experience.
Commercial understanding.
Customer relationships.
Operational credibility.
The ability to lead technical people without needing to pretend you know more than they do.
And evidence that you've actually changed and grown something.
Not just managed what somebody else built.
This is a global role supporting customers and operators across multiple countries and markets.
So, you'll need to demonstrate experience operating across international markets, rather than having worked exclusively within a UK-focused environment.
Equally, if your experience is concentrated entirely within one specialist area, it's unlikely to give you the breadth this position requires.
This is a senior leadership position with meaningful commercial responsibility and a significant transformation and growth mandate.
It won't be straightforward.
That's rather the point.
If that sounds like the sort of challenge you've been preparing for, I'd welcome a conversation.
All conversations will, of course, be treated in complete confidence.
