Waking Night Support Worker – Children's Residential Home
Rural Horsham | £29,800 | 4 nights on, 4 nights off
Shift hours: 22:00–09:00
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Training: Full training provided
Are you someone who naturally looks out for others and wants to make a difference to the lives of children and young people?
We are looking for caring, reliable and approachable Waking Night Support Workers to join a children's residential service in a lovely rural setting near Horsham.
Working nights in a children's home is about much more than simply being there while everyone sleeps. You'll play an important part in making sure the children feel safe, settled and reassured throughout the night. Whether it's offering a listening ear, providing comfort when someone is unsettled or responding to situations that need your attention, your presence will help make the home a safe and welcoming place to be.
You'll be joining a residential care team where consistency, patience and a genuine commitment to the children really matter. Full training will be provided, so you'll have the support and guidance you need to feel confident in your role.
Why consider this role?
The 4 nights on, 4 nights off rota offers a good level of structure and regular blocks of time away from work, giving you the opportunity to enjoy your days off and make the most of your time outside work.
You'll also benefit from:
-
A permanent, full-time position paying £29,800
-
A consistent 4-on, 4-off working pattern
-
Full training and support
-
The opportunity to make a genuine difference to children's lives
-
A rewarding role within a residential childcare setting
What will you be doing?
As part of the waking night team, you'll be responsible for:
-
Providing a safe, calm and reassuring environment throughout the night.
-
Being awake, alert and available to support the children whenever needed.
-
Offering comfort, reassurance and emotional support.
-
Responding calmly and confidently to any incidents or challenging situations.
-
Carrying out regular checks in line with individual care plans.
-
Maintaining a clean, tidy and comfortable home.
-
Completing night records and communicating any concerns to the wider team.
-
Following safeguarding procedures and ensuring the children's needs remain at the centre of everything you do.
What are we looking for?
Ideally, you'll already have experience working within residential childcare or social care and understand the importance of providing consistent, nurturing support.
Just as importantly, you'll be:
-
Reliable and committed, with the ability to work the full waking night shift.
-
Calm, patient and able to think on your feet.
-
Confident in responding to situations that may arise during the night.
-
Caring and approachable, with a genuine interest in helping children feel safe and supported.
-
Flexible to work a mixture of weekday and weekend nights.
A driving licence is preferable due to the rural location.
Full training is provided, and we'd be happy to have an informal conversation to tell you more about the role
