I am recruiting for a Health, Safety & Environmental Business Partner to join a growing specialist engineering and construction business based in Manchester.
The company delivers technically complex projects across the UK, including major data centre design and build projects. However, you do not need previous data centre experience for this opportunity. The key requirement is a strong construction Health & Safety background, with a good understanding of CDM Regulations and, particularly, the responsibilities of the Principal Contractor (PC).
Reporting into the Head of HSE and working as part of an established HSE team, you will partner with operational and project teams to ensure Health, Safety & Environmental standards are effectively implemented across projects.
The Role
This is a varied role combining site engagement, auditing, compliance, incident investigation and practical support to project teams.
Key responsibilities will include:
Supporting project and site teams with the implementation of the company's HSE management system
Providing practical Health & Safety advice across construction and engineering projects
Ensuring teams understand and meet their responsibilities under CDM, particularly from a Principal Contractor perspective
Developing and delivering an audit programme across your allocated projects/workstream
Carrying out site inspections and HSE audits across the UK
Reviewing and supporting the development of RAMS
Attending project pre-start meetings
Supporting the onboarding, assessment and monitoring of subcontractors
Undertaking accident and incident investigations
Delivering internal Health & Safety training
Monitoring changes to relevant Health & Safety legislation and supporting ongoing compliance
Supporting continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures and management systems
Producing monthly reports covering proactive and reactive HSE performance
Promoting a positive Health & Safety culture across employees, contractors, clients and supply-chain partners

Good working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
A clear understanding of Principal Contractor duties and responsibilities
Previous Health & Safety experience within construction or a closely related project environment
Experience carrying out site inspections and audits

Good knowledge of ISO 45001
Confidence dealing with project managers, site teams, subcontractors and senior stakeholders
The ability to travel to projects across the UK, including occasional overnight stays
