Our client is seeking a motivated and technically minded Site Chemist to join their team in Derby. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a chemistry background who is interested in waste classification, hazardous waste management and environmental compliance.
The Role
Working within a waste management facility, you will help ensure incoming waste is correctly assessed, classified and managed in line with environmental regulations and site procedures.
Key responsibilities include:

Sampling, inspecting and classifying incoming waste streams.

Assessing waste documentation and ensuring accurate waste acceptance.

Applying WM3 guidance to support waste classification and hazardous waste assessments.

Ensuring compliance with Environmental Agency regulations, permits and site procedures.

Maintaining accurate records and waste tracking documentation.

Liaising with customers, operational teams and external stakeholders on technical waste queries.

Supporting site compliance, environmental performance and health and safety standards.
About You

A degree or relevant qualification in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

An understanding of hazardous waste, waste classification and environmental regulations would be advantageous.

Strong attention to detail and good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Good communication and organisational abilities.

A proactive approach, with the confidence to work both independently and as part of an operational team.
Experience in a waste management, recycling or laboratory environment would be beneficial, although candidates with a relevant scientific background looking to enter the sector may also be considered
