Tax Director - International Tax Audit, Planning & Projects
We're seeking an experienced Tax Director to take ownership of international tax audits, planning, restructuring and strategic projects across jurisdictions outside the US.
Reporting to the Senior Director - Non-US Taxes, you'll operate at the intersection of technical tax expertise and commercial decision-making, helping the business manage exposure, evaluate opportunities and navigate complex international tax matters with confidence.
This is a role for someone who can look beyond the immediate tax issue, understand the wider business implications and develop solutions that are both technically robust and commercially practical.
Where you'll make a difference
You'll have responsibility for a varied portfolio of international tax matters, from complex tax authority disputes to forward-looking planning initiatives and major business transactions.
Your impact will come not simply from resolving individual issues, but from how you assess risk, influence decisions, strengthen processes and help the wider tax function operate more effectively.
What you'll be responsible for
-
Shaping international tax strategy: Lead tax planning, business restructuring and strategic initiatives across non-US jurisdictions, identifying opportunities while maintaining appropriate governance and compliance.
-
Navigating complex tax disputes: Direct the management of international tax audits, investigations and litigation, determining appropriate approaches to challenging issues and working towards effective resolutions with tax authorities.
-
Supporting major business decisions: Provide tax leadership on cross-border mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and other transactions, covering structuring, due diligence and the assessment of potential exposures.
-
Maintaining compliance and control: Oversee international corporate income tax compliance, return reviews, tax authority engagement and the effectiveness of supporting processes and controls.
-
Connecting tax with the wider business: Work closely with Accounting, Legal, Treasury, FP&A and senior tax colleagues to align priorities, resolve complex issues and ensure tax considerations inform business decisions.
-
Improving how tax operates: Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve data quality and introduce technology-enabled solutions, including automation, analytics and AI.
-
Leading people and performance: Develop and guide a team of tax professionals, building technical capability, encouraging accountability and establishing clear priorities.
-
Influencing outcomes across the organisation: Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, external advisors and tax authorities, balancing competing demands while keeping the focus on long-term business objectives.
The experience you'll bring
You'll be a confident, commercially minded tax professional who combines technical depth with the ability to see the bigger picture. You'll be comfortable taking ownership of sensitive issues, making informed judgements and influencing stakeholders when the answers aren't straightforward.
You'll also bring:
-
A bachelor's degree or six or more years of relevant work experience.
-
Fifteen or more years of relevant experience in corporate income tax or a related tax discipline.
-
Strong technical expertise in corporate income tax, international tax planning, compliance and tax controversy.
-
Experience overseeing complex tax matters, audits and projects involving multiple jurisdictions.
-
A proven track record of leading and developing tax professionals.
-
The ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly and translate them into practical recommendations.
-
Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills, including the confidence to challenge constructively.
-
A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to managing risk, competing priorities and business expectations.
What would set you apart
-
A CPA, CTA, Master of Taxation, Master of Accounting or equivalent professional qualification.
-
Significant experience in international tax structuring, business reorganisations and cross-border transactions.
-
Experience resolving material tax disputes and managing sensitive relationships with tax authorities.
-
Familiarity with OneSource Tax Provision and SAP.
-
Experience using Alteryx, Qlik, AI or comparable technologies to improve tax processes and decision-making.
-
A track record of delivering tax transformation, improving operational effectiveness and strengthening controls.
-
The ability to influence senior leaders and deliver results within a complex, multinational and matrixed organisation.
-
Experience balancing technical tax considerations with commercial priorities and broader business objectives.

For an established tax leader looking to combine strategic influence, complex problem-solving and people leadership, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution at a senior level.
