Permanent | Full-time | Days | Early Friday Finish
Are you a Quality Inspector who enjoys hands-on engineering, varied inspection work and the opportunity to take real ownership of quality?
Would you like to work with large, bespoke machined components rather than inspecting the same parts every day?
An established specialist engineering business in Ashton-under-Lyne is looking to recruit a Quality Inspector to join its close-knit manufacturing team.
This is an excellent opportunity to become the dedicated inspector within a business that combines the working environment of a smaller engineering company with the stability and investment of a larger industrial group.
You'll benefit from a competitive salary of £36,000 - £43,000, a 1pm Friday finish, 33 days' annual leave and the opportunity to work with an impressive variety of precision-engineered components.
What makes this opportunity different?
Varied engineering work: Inspect bespoke machined components, castings, forgings and fabrications used across a range of industrial applications.
Real responsibility: Take ownership of day-to-day dimensional inspection, working directly with production teams and senior management.
Continued investment: Join an established engineering business investing in machinery, CNC capabilities and future development.
Technical variety: Work with FARO Arm measurement technology, conventional inspection equipment and different engineering requirements.
Supportive working environment: Become part of a close-knit team with approachable management and practical support.
Early Friday finish: Enjoy a 1pm finish every Friday.
What will you be doing? As Quality Inspector, you'll play an important role in ensuring machined components and fabricated assemblies meet customer drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out first-off, in-process and final dimensional inspections of machined components and engineering assemblies.
Using FARO Arm measurement equipment and conventional measuring tools to check dimensions, tolerances and component accuracy.
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to ensure components meet customer specifications.
Producing accurate inspection reports, First Article Inspection Reports and customer quality documentation where required.
Maintaining measuring equipment calibration records, certificates and inspection documentation.
Identifying and reporting non-conformances, working with management and production teams to resolve quality issues.
Supporting machinists with dimensional measurement and practical inspection queries.
Conducting inspections with customers and third-party inspectors, explaining findings and measurements where required.
You'll have independence in your daily inspection activities, with support from an experienced management team when technical or production issues arise.
What are we looking for? We're keen to speak with Quality Inspectors, Dimensional Inspectors, CMM Inspectors or engineering professionals who have developed strong practical inspection skills within a machining or mechanical manufacturing environment.
You'll need:
Proven hands-on experience inspecting machined components or engineering assemblies.
Practical experience using either a FARO Arm or CMM for dimensional inspection.
Confidence reading engineering drawings and interpreting dimensional tolerances.
Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges and height gauges.
A practical understanding of machining processes and engineering components.
The ability to produce accurate inspection reports using Microsoft Excel, Word and other standard systems.
An understanding of equipment calibration and maintaining inspection records.
The ability to organise inspection activities independently and explain technical findings clearly to colleagues and customers.
Experience inspecting large components, working in subcontract machining or using FARO measurement software would be advantageous, but is not essential.
You do not need previous FARO Arm experience if you have practical CMM inspection experience. Training on the company's specific inspection software can be provided.
We would also welcome applications from individuals with a CNC machining, toolmaking or precision engineering background who have developed substantial hands-on inspection experience.
