The Role - School Librarian
A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in the London Borough of Camden is seeking to appoint a dedicated School Librarian to join its team on a long-term basis, starting ASAP.
As the successful School Librarian, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of the school library, ensuring it remains an organised, accessible and engaging environment for students across KS3 and KS4. You will encourage students to develop a love of reading, support independent learning and help students access appropriate resources to support their education.
Your responsibilities will include managing the library's book collection, maintaining accurate records of borrowed and returned resources, organising books and learning materials, and ensuring the library remains a calm and productive space. You will also assist students with locating books, researching information and developing their independent study skills.
Working closely with teaching staff and other members of the school team, you may help promote reading initiatives, support literacy activities and recommend suitable books and resources to encourage students to read for pleasure. You will also assist with maintaining library systems, monitoring resources and ensuring the library is welcoming, tidy and well organised.
Previous experience working within a school library, public library or educational setting would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be organised, approachable and enthusiastic about supporting young people, with strong communication skills and the ability to encourage positive behaviour and independent learning.
