Specialist Flooring Estimator
Location: Manchester (Hybrid Working)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience, plus performance-related bonus
The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Construction Estimator looking for a new opportunity within a specialist contracting business? Or do you have a background in construction and want to develop your career in estimating?
We're working with a long-established, family-run specialist flooring contractor with over 125 years of industry heritage. Known for its commitment to quality, service and delivering projects safely, on time and within budget, the business is looking to strengthen its team with an Estimator or Trainee Estimator.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an established business working across commercial and industrial flooring projects, with the chance to develop your technical and commercial skills and progress your career.
The successful candidate will play an important role in preparing accurate and competitive tenders, working closely with colleagues, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure projects are priced effectively and commercially.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing detailed cost estimates and quantity take-offs for commercial and industrial flooring projects.
Reviewing construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation to establish project requirements.
Identifying potential risks, omissions and cost-saving opportunities.
Obtaining and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
Maintaining accurate cost databases, pricing information and historical tender records.
Preparing bid proposals, scopes of work and tender clarifications.
Working alongside sales and project management teams to explore value-engineering options and optimise project costs.
Managing multiple estimating assignments and ensuring tender deadlines are met.
Producing clear cost summaries and presenting estimates to internal stakeholders and clients.
About You
We're interested in hearing from both established estimators and candidates looking to develop into the role.
You may already have experience in construction estimating, or you could be working in a related construction role with the ambition to move into a more commercially focused position.
Ideally, you'll bring some of the following:
Experience in commercial construction, specialist contracting or a related industry.
The ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
An understanding of construction methods, materials, labour costs and subcontractor pricing.
Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
Experience with construction estimating software would be advantageous, but is not essential for the right trainee candidate.
You'll be commercially minded, methodical and keen to learn, with the confidence to communicate with colleagues, suppliers and customers.
What's on Offer?
Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
Performance-related bonus.
Company pension.
Healthcare benefits.
On-site parking.
Hybrid working arrangements.
Support for continued learning and professional development.
A supportive team environment within an established family business.
Opportunities to develop your career, including potential progression into sales.
