Locum Speech and Language Therapist - Band 7 Equivalent
Location: Ilford, East London
Rate: £35 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, predominantly term-time only
Contract: Locum, with potential to transition into a permanent position
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist primary school in Redbridge, supporting children with complex communication needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist who enjoys working with autistic children and children with significant special educational needs within a specialist educational environment.
Working across two school sites, you will deliver tailored speech and language therapy while contributing to a whole-school approach to communication, helping staff embed effective strategies into everyday classroom practice.
The role is offered on a locum basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent position for someone looking for a longer-term opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Assess and deliver speech and language therapy in line with children's Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Support primary-age children with autism, complex communication needs and significant special educational needs.
Deliver flexible interventions within an integrated curriculum model.
Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to embed communication strategies throughout the school.
Provide training, guidance and coaching to education staff.
Contribute to improving the school's communication environment.
Collaborate with the on-site Occupational Therapy team and the wider Speech and Language Therapy service.
Monitor children's progress and contribute to effective multidisciplinary support.
What We're Looking For
A qualified Speech and Language Therapist with relevant clinical experience.
Experience supporting children with autism and complex special educational needs.
Knowledge of EHCPs and delivering therapy within educational settings.
Confidence working collaboratively with teaching staff and multidisciplinary teams.
An interest in integrated, child-centred approaches and whole-school communication strategies.
What's on Offer?
£35 per hour, Band 7 equivalent.
37.5 hours per week.
Predominantly term-time working.
A likely long-term assignment through to the end of July, subject to ongoing approval.
Potential to transition from locum to a permanent position.
Flexibility to negotiate additional school holiday weeks for administrative work, agreed in advance.
Collaboration with an established school-based therapy team, including on-site Occupational Therapists.
