Our client, a well-established main contractor, is seeking an experienced Pre-Construction Planner to join their team in Ipswich. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction planning professional with a strong main contracting background to play a key role in securing and delivering a diverse portfolio of projects across sectors including education, healthcare, defence and public buildings, ranging in value from £5m to £30m.
Working within the pre-construction team, you will be responsible for developing robust tender and pre-construction programmes, producing logistics plans and methodologies, and providing critical planning support throughout the bid process. This role offers the opportunity to influence project strategy from the earliest stages and contribute directly to successful tender submissions.
As a Pre-Construction Planner, you will work closely with estimators, bid managers, operational teams and supply chain partners to develop high-quality planning solutions that demonstrate the contractor's approach to delivering projects safely, efficiently and on programme.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed pre-construction, tender and construction programmes using Asta Powerproject
Develop programme strategies that support competitive and compliant bid submissions
Identify critical paths, programme risks, constraints and opportunities
Produce site logistics plans and sequencing drawings demonstrating construction methodology
Compile written construction methodologies for inclusion within bid submissions
Support bid teams with planning input during the tender process
Liaise with operational teams, subcontractors and suppliers to obtain programme information
Assist with resource planning, phasing and construction sequencing
Prepare programme reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients
Review project information including drawings, specifications and contract documentationRequirements
Proven experience as a Planner, Pre-Construction Planner or Project Manager with experience of Planning within the construction industry
Strong main contracting background delivering projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, defence, commercial or public sector buildings
Proficient in Asta Powerproject
Excellent understanding of construction methodology, phasing and sequencing
Ability to identify programme risks and develop practical solutions
Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills
Experience contributing to successful tender and bid submissions
Good working knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Full UK driving licenceDesirable
Degree or qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Experience across multiple construction sectors
Knowledge of BIM processes
Understanding of Earned Value Management techniques
