We are looking for a compassionate, experienced and confident Children & Young People’s Support Worker to join a bespoke alternative provision supporting children and young people aged 5–25 across Worcestershire.
The service supports young people with a range of additional needs, neurodiversity and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Some young people may require a higher level of personal care and, where appropriate, support with medical needs.
This is much more than a personal care role. The successful candidate will be someone who can build trusting relationships, provide positive encouragement and guidance, mentor young people and help them engage confidently in their environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Children & Young People’s Support Worker, your responsibilities may include:
Providing compassionate and person-centred support to children and young people with additional needs, neurodiversity and SEMH needs.
Providing personal care and intimate care, including toileting, continence support and nappy/continence pad changes, where required.
Supporting young people with washing, dressing and other personal hygiene needs, while always maintaining their dignity, privacy and independence.
Being confident and comfortable supporting young people with personal care needs in a respectful, sensitive and professional manner.
Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
Mentoring and encouraging young people to develop confidence, independence and life skills.
Supporting engagement in educational, recreational and therapeutic activities.
Providing emotional support, reassurance and positive guidance.
Supporting young people who may display behaviours that challenge.
Following individual care, support and risk-management plans.
Supporting with medical needs where trained and required.
Communicating effectively with colleagues, families and other professionals involved in the young person’s support.
Promoting a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every young person is treated with respect.
Encouraging young people to reach their potential and participate positively in their learning and development.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
A minimum of 6 months’ experience working in the UK healthcare sector.
Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, learning disabilities, autism, neurodiversity or SEMH needs is mandatory.
Previous experience providing personal care, including toileting, continence care and nappy/continence pad changes.
Confidence and willingness to provide intimate and personal care to children and young people as part of their daily support.
A genuine passion for working with children and young people.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to build positive and trusting relationships.
A caring, patient and compassionate approach.
The ability to remain calm, professional and positive when faced with challenging situations.
The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good written and verbal English.
A full UK driving licence and access to your own car.
The flexibility to travel to establishments across Worcestershire.
