Income Recovery Officer – Interim (2 Months) North Hertfordshire | £25–27 per hour
A great short‑term opportunity for an experienced Income Recovery professional who thrives on balancing empathy with firm, fair arrears management. This two‑month interim role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact quickly, supporting a well‑run housing provider in North Herts during a busy period.
The Role
You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of current and former tenant accounts, working proactively to prevent arrears, maximise income, and support residents to sustain their tenancies. This is a hands‑on role where your judgement, communication skills and ability to build trust will be key.
Key responsibilities include:

Managing a caseload of rent accounts, prioritising effectively and taking timely action to prevent and recover arrears.

Building strong, supportive relationships with residents, demonstrating empathy while encouraging positive payment behaviour.

Negotiating realistic repayment arrangements and encouraging engagement through calls, visits and interviews.

Reviewing and managing credit balances and former tenant arrears in line with policy.

Preparing and serving legal notices, instigating legal action within delegated authority, and attending court when required.

Working closely with external partners including Housing Benefit teams, DWP, solicitors, Citizens Advice and support agencies.

Ensuring accurate records, evidence and reporting to support performance targets.

Staying up to date with welfare benefits, Universal Credit processes and changes affecting affordability.

Contributing to continuous improvement of income recovery policies, procedures and systems.
About You
You bring a strong track record in income management and arrears recovery, including possession action. You’re confident engaging with residents in challenging situations and can balance compassion with clear, outcome‑focused decision‑making.
You’ll need:

Experience in rent arrears recovery and income management.

Solid understanding of welfare benefits and Universal Credit.

Excellent communication, negotiation and time‑management skills.

Ability to work independently, manage pressure and adapt quickly.
