M&E Estimator – Mechanical & Electrical Building Services

The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established construction and building services contractor seeking an experienced M&E Estimator to join their team based in Andover, Hampshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded and technically knowledgeable individual with a strong background in Mechanical and Electrical Building Services to play a key role in the pre-construction and tendering process.
Our client delivers a range of construction and building services projects across the Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Residential and Public Sectors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, reviewing tender documentation, obtaining supplier quotations and supporting the business in securing new projects.
Key Responsibilities

Preparing detailed and competitive estimates for mechanical and electrical building services projects.

Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.

Undertaking material take-offs and preparing cost breakdowns for labour, plant, materials and subcontractor packages.

Obtaining, reviewing and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

Producing competitive tender submissions in accordance with project requirements.

Identifying potential commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions.

Working closely with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and operational teams to ensure accurate pricing.

Attending site visits, tender meetings and pre-construction discussions where required.

Preparing tender clarifications, qualifications and supporting documentation.

Monitoring market rates, material costs and supplier pricing.

Supporting the handover of successful tenders to project delivery teams.

Maintaining accurate estimating records and tender documentation.

Managing multiple tenders simultaneously while meeting submission deadlines.
Essential Requirements

Proven experience working as an M&E Estimator, Mechanical Estimator, Electrical Estimator or in a similar pre-construction role.

Strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical building services installations.

Experience preparing estimates and tender submissions for construction or M&E projects.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.

Experience undertaking material take-offs and preparing detailed cost estimates.

Good understanding of labour, material, plant and subcontractor pricing.

Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify project risks and opportunities.

Experience obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.

Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills.

Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to strict deadlines.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
Previous experience working for an M&E contractor or specialist building services subcontractor.
Experience estimating projects across Healthcare, NHS, Education, MOD, Defence or Public Sector environments.
Knowledge of HVAC, heating, ventilation, pipework, electrical distribution, lighting and associated building services systems.
Experience using estimating software such as Trimble, ConQuest, Estimation or similar platforms.
Understanding of JCT and NEC forms of contract.
Experience preparing tenders for refurbishment, maintenance, small works and new-build projects.
Knowledge of value engineering and cost optimisation.
Experience supporting projects from tender stage through to contract award.
