Supporting Kents Hill & Monkston as it grows and evolves.
Kents Hill & Monkston Parish Council is strengthening its operational capacity as responsibilities expand and expectations rise across the parish. With new community facilities coming online, increasing service demands and a commitment to modern, responsive governance, we are investing in the capability needed for the future.
We are looking for an Assistant Clerk & Finance Administrator who can play a key role in the Council’s day to day management. Working closely with the Parish Clerk & RFO, you will help ensure the Council’s finances, governance arrangements and operational services are delivered effectively, accurately and transparently.
About the role
This is a varied and responsible role at the heart of the Council's operations. A significant part of the role will involve ownership of the Council's day-to-day financial administration, ensuring robust financial processes and accurate record keeping.
You will manage invoice processing, payments, financial records, VAT submissions and audit administration, working closely with the Clerk & RFO to ensure the Council maintains strong financial controls and compliance.
Alongside financial administration, you will support governance and democratic processes, preparing agendas, reports and minutes, maintaining records and supporting compliance with statutory requirements and Council policies.
You will also help deliver practical improvements across the parish, coordinate contractors, support environmental and community projects, and help ensure community assets and facilities remain safe, compliant and well maintained.
As the Council takes on new facilities and responsibilities, you will play a key role in developing effective systems and processes, supporting service delivery and providing organisational resilience, including deputising for the Clerk where appropriate.
About you
To succeed, you will bring:
Experience in finance administration, bookkeeping, accounts processing or a similar financial role.
Confidence managing invoices, payments, financial records and administrative financial processes with a high level of accuracy.
Experience in operations, administration or service delivery within a public‑facing or regulated environment.
Strong organisational skills, accuracy and the ability to manage competing priorities
Confidence coordinating contractors, managing tasks and supporting practical, on‑the‑ground work
Clear communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach when working with residents, councillors and stakeholders.
A commitment to public service, community wellbeing and continuous improvement
Experience in a local council environment is helpful but not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with good finance and administration experience who are looking to broaden their responsibilities within a professional, community focused organisation.
