Pearson Whiffin Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Factory Operative to join a busy and established foundry team based in Medway.
This is a great opportunity for someone with previous factory, manufacturing, foundry or production experience who enjoys practical, hands-on work and is comfortable working within an industrial environment.
The role will involve supporting the production of aluminium castings, including melt preparation, manual pouring of molten aluminium, mould preparation, washout and knock-out processes.
The Role
Working as part of the Foundry team, you'll be responsible for supporting the casting process from initial preparation through to the removal and handling of completed castings.
Responsibilities will include:
Preparing melts prior to the casting process
Cleaning and washing out moulds before casting
Presenting and preparing moulds ready for casting
Supporting the casting process
Manually pouring molten aluminium into ceramic moulds
Moving moulds following the casting process
Carrying out knock-out duties, removing ceramic shell from castings manually
Carrying out manual handling duties throughout the department
Moving materials and castings safely around the production area
Recording work accurately using internal systems
Completing job cards and logging completed work
Maintaining and cleaning plant and equipment when required
Keeping the department clean, tidy and organised
Following 5S housekeeping procedures

What We're Looking For
Previous experience within a factory, manufacturing, foundry or production environment would be advantageous
Experience working within a hands-on industrial environment
Comfortable carrying out physical and manual work
Able to follow clear production instructions and safe working procedures
Good attention to detail
Reliable and hardworking approach
Comfortable working with machinery, equipment and production materials
Able to work effectively as part of a team
Good awareness of health and safety
Comfortable working around hot materials and industrial processes
Able to complete basic production records and job documentation
Willing to learn different stages of the casting process
Previous experience within metalwork, casting, engineering or heavy manufacturing would be highly advantageous
Health & Safety
Due to the nature of the foundry environment, health and safety will be a key part of the role.
You will be expected to:
Wear the correct PPE at all times
Follow COSHH procedures relating to chemicals used within the department
Understand relevant Material Safety Data Sheets
Follow Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work
Maintain a safe and organised working environment
Ensure plant and equipment is kept clean and maintained appropriately
Working Hours
Monday – Thursday | 06:00 – 16:30
40 hours per week
This role offers a four-day working week, giving you a three-day weekend every week.
