We are recruiting for a Quality Inspector to join an established manufacturing business based in Standish, Wigan.
This is a hands on role within a busy Engineering and Manufacturing environment, where accuracy, consistency and attention to detail are essential. You will be responsible for inspecting components at different stages of manufacture, using a range of precision inspection tools and measuring equipment to ensure products meet the required standards.
Working closely with Production and reporting to the Quality Manager, you will help identify quality issues, maintain accurate records and support the quality process from goods inwards through to final inspection.
The role would suit someone with previous experience in component inspection who is confident working with engineering drawings, tolerances and technical specifications, and enjoys a practical shop floor environment.
Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
Hours: 38 hours per week. Monday to Thursday 07:30 to 16:30 and Friday 07:30 to 11:30.
Quality Inspector Key Responsibilities:

Carry out dimensional and visual inspections at different stages of manufacture, including goods inwards, in process and final inspection.

Use a range of precision inspection equipment, including micrometers, verniers, height gauges, gauges and other mechanical measuring tools.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and material specifications when inspecting components.

Operate a CMM to accurately measure components and confirm they meet the required specification.

Complete inspection results and maintain accurate documentation to support traceability and quality audits.

Support First Article Inspection and PPAP documentation where required.

Work closely with Production to identify quality concerns and support the resolution of issues as they arise.

Raise non conformances and assist with investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action planning.

Carry out visual checks including surface finish, labelling and packaging integrity.

Perform internal calibration checks on measuring equipment and inspection tools.

Support the identification of recurring quality issues and help maintain consistent standards throughout Production.

Work within established quality, environmental and health and safety procedures, supporting ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

Keep a clean and organised working area while following all relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.

Maintaining accurate quality records and assisting with internal and external audits
Quality Inspector Requirements:

Previous experience as a Quality Inspector within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment.

Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and material specifications.

Practical experience using a variety of mechanical inspection tools and measuring techniques, including micrometers, verniers and height gauges.

Competent in operating a CMM. Experience with CMM programming would be advantageous.

Good understanding of quality systems and standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Experience maintaining accurate inspection records and quality documentation for traceability and audit purposes, with the ability to assist with audits.

Experience supporting First Article Inspection and PPAP would be advantageous.

Previous experience inspecting castings, ideally from goods inwards verification through to final inspection, would be advantageous.

Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

Previous experience carrying out internal calibration checks on inspection equipment would be advantageous.

Accurate and methodical approach with excellent attention to detail.

Good IT literacy for inspection reporting and documentation.

Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with Production and Quality teams.
