Long Term Futures is seeking a confident and resilient Pastoral Support Worker to join an Alternative Provision in Wolverhampton, supporting pupils across Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4.
The provision supports children and young people who are at risk of permanent exclusion or have already been permanently excluded from mainstream education. Many pupils will have experienced significant barriers to their education and require consistent pastoral support, clear boundaries, and positive relationships to help them re-engage with learning.
This is a hands-on role where no two days will be the same. The successful candidate will need to think on their feet, remain calm when faced with challenging behaviour, and have a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
About the Role
Working alongside teaching, pastoral, and senior leadership teams, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Providing pastoral support to pupils across KS2, KS3, and KS4
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have struggled within mainstream education
Supporting pupils who are at risk of, or have experienced, permanent exclusion
Responding confidently and appropriately to challenging behaviour and difficult situations
Using de-escalation and positive behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe learning environment
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, resilience, and positive decision-making
Encouraging engagement with education, improved attendance, and positive attitudes towards learning
Identifying and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures
Recording and communicating relevant pastoral and safeguarding information accurately
Working collaboratively with teachers, senior leaders, families, and external professionals to support positive outcomesIdeal Candidate Profile
Previous experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, pastoral, SEMH, or additional needs is highly desirable
Experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN setting, mainstream school, youth work, or similar environment would be advantageous
Confident managing challenging behaviour and able to remain calm under pressure
Strong understanding of safeguarding and confident identifying and reporting concerns
Able to think quickly and make appropriate decisions in challenging situations
Resilient, patient, adaptable, and consistent
Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
Able to establish clear professional boundaries while remaining approachable and supportive
