Yard Operative
Location: Clover Nook, Alfreton
Hours: 40 per week, with an overtime rate available for additional hours worked
Panda is looking for a Yard Operative to join our team at Clover Nook in Alfreton.
This is a practical, hands-on role helping to keep our recycling site running safely and efficiently.
You’ll load and unload vehicles, sort recyclable materials and operate mobile plant, working closely with colleagues to keep the yard organised and materials moving.
What you’ll do
As a Yard Operative, you will:
Load and unload containers and curtain-sided vehicles
Sort recyclable materials to support effective material recovery
Operate mobile plant as directed by the Site Manager, including forklifts, loading shovels and tracked or wheeled 360° material handlers, depending on your qualifications
Complete and record pre-use machine checks, reporting any defects or damage to the Site Manager
Carry out routine plant care, including greasing, checking oil levels and clearing dust from radiators, following company and manufacturer procedures
Use machinery responsibly and only for the tasks it is designed to carry out
Follow risk assessments, work procedures and safe systems of work
Maintain good housekeeping across the yard and wash down machinery at the end of each shift
Communicate with colleagues and support other site duties as requiredWhat you’ll bring
Relevant NPORS qualifications are essential for operating plant machinery
Experience operating mobile plant safely and confidently, particularly loading shovels and 360° material handlers
A practical approach to routine machine checks and care
A strong focus on safety and keeping your work area tidy
