With expertise in lighting design, installation, project management, maintenance and the integration of smart technologies, we manage over one million street lights across the UK and help towns and cities become safer, smarter, greener and more efficient
What will I be doing in this role?
Our Highways Electrical teams deliver major contracts across Dorset, Hampshire, West Sussex and London, helping to keep the region’s roads, street lighting and electrical infrastructure safe and operational. As SHE Advisor, you’ll be right in the middle of that operation, working alongside our teams on site and helping make sure safety, health and environmental standards are not just met, but understood and embedded in the way we work.
In a typical day, you could expect to be;
-
Providing practical SHE advice and guidance to operational teams and managers.
-
Carrying out regular site visits, inspections and audits, identifying areas of good practice as well as opportunities for improvement.
-
Supporting teams to ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, company policies and procedures.
-
Leading and supporting investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses, identifying root causes and helping to implement appropriate corrective actions.
-
Providing advice and support around risk assessments, method statements and other operational SHE documentation.
-
Working with managers and site teams to identify and manage SHE risks effectively.
-
Monitoring actions arising from inspections, audits and investigations to ensure they are followed through.
-
Supporting the development and delivery of SHE briefings, toolbox talks and other awareness activities.
-
Promoting a positive safety culture and encouraging everyone to take ownership of SHE.
-
Challenging unsafe behaviours and practices where necessary, having the confidence to speak up and influence decisions.
-
Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, industry standards and best practice.
-
Maintaining accurate SHE records and supporting the production of relevant reports and management information.
-
Working collaboratively with the wider SHE team and operational colleagues across the region.
What do I need to be successful in the role?
This is a role for someone who is comfortable being out on site, talking to operational teams and, when needed, challenging the status quo. You’ll need to be confident, assertive and able to hold your own in a busy operational environment.
We would like you to bring;
-
Passion about the Health & Safety Profession
-
Experience, knowledge and understanding of the application of SHE management principles and best practice within an operational environment.
-
A proven track record of engaging effectively with stakeholders in SHE matters and requirements.
-
Experience of developing and improving processes, and driving SHE performance
-
We would want you to come from a Construction, Mechanical or Electrical engineering, telecoms/fibre or a DNO background.
-
A willingness to challenge unsatisfactory conditions or breaches.
-
Confident IT skills with experience in using Teams, Excel and Databases.
-
You will have a professional approach, be self-organised and motivated to positively influence stakeholders.
-
You will be comfortable travelling to operational sites and depots across the region- for this reason a full UK Driving Licence is essential.
