Financial Controller

Salary: £65,000 - £75,000
Location: Outskirts of Windsor
Hours of work: 9am – 5pm – Part-time hours can also be considered as well as some hybrid working pattern
Our client is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function while also playing an important role in wider financial planning and decision-making.
This is a senior, hands-on position combining team leadership, financial control, reporting and commercial input. It would suit a qualified finance professional who has previously worked within a legal practice and is confident operating across both strategic and operational finance.
The Role:
Working closely with senior stakeholders, the Financial Controller will help shape financial priorities, improve processes and ensure the finance function supports the wider objectives of the organisation.
Leading, supporting and developing the finance team
Managing budgeting, forecasting and cash flow
Producing accurate internal and external financial reporting
Overseeing statutory accounts preparation and supporting audit requirements
Maintaining effective financial controls, procedures and processes
Supporting regulatory compliance relating to client accounts and financial procedures
Monitoring financial performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
Managing regular finance processes and ensuring deadlines are met
Overseeing payroll activity
Liaising with external advisers, banking contacts and other stakeholders
Supporting finance-related projects and wider business initiatives as required
The ideal Financial Controller will have:
ACA, CIMA or a comparable professional accountancy qualification
Previous experience in a similar senior finance position within a legal practice
Strong working knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules
Experience covering both operational finance and financial planning
Previous responsibility for managing or developing a finance team
Strong commercial awareness alongside sound technical accounting knowledge
Confident financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash-management experience
Microsoft Excel skills
Strong numerical, analytical and organisational ability
The communication skills to deal confidently with senior stakeholders and external professional bodies
Experience of payroll software and familiarity with finance or case-management systems used within professional-services environments would be advantageous.
